We’re making it easier to send events to friends and family that you have attended events with. With Connections, you can now invite people with whom you have the most shared event history, whether or not you have their latest email or phone number easily available.
What is a Connection?
A Connection is another Paperless Post user who you have attended events with in the past. Your Connections list is based on shared event history, so close friends or family may not appear if you haven't attended events together.
Sending to Connections
Finding Connections
You can find your Connections in two places:
The Address Book: A new "Connections" category allows you to browse these potential guests:
- The "Add Guests" Flow:
- When creating an event, you can add the top Connections surfaced:
- Or you can access more by selecting the "Connections" icon, or the "View All" option next to your top Connections surfaced.
This will bring you to your Connections tab, where you can add guests:
- When creating an event, you can add the top Connections surfaced:
A Connection only appears if they meet the eligibility threshold and have not opted out of the feature. If you do not see any Connections, it may be because you haven't yet attended enough events on Paperless Post, or your events took place a long enough time ago that they may no longer be relevant.
Information displayed
For each person on your list, you will see:
- Their name
- The total number of events you have both attended
- The name and date of the most recent shared event
Privacy Note: To protect user privacy, contact information (email/phone) for Connections is always redacted if you don’t already have their contact info. You will only see their full name and the context of how you know them, such as the number of shared events and the name of the most recent event you both attended.
How Inviting Works
When you send an invitation or Card to a Connection without also entering their contact information:
- They receive an invitation that includes a note explaining the connection (e.g., "You and Alex have attended 4 events together, most recently Sarah’s Birthday.").
- The invitation makes it clear that you are sending through Paperless Post (rather than utilizing their contact information.)
- Once your Connection RSVPs ‘Will Attend’, their contact info is unredacted, and they are automatically added to your permanent Address Book as a full contact. If they decline or do not respond, their information remains private. You cannot RSVP “Will Attend” on behalf of Connections.
Seeing Connections as a Recipient
To see your Connections, you must be logged into a Paperless Post account since this information is private to you.
- After submitting an RSVP, select the "See your Connections" button.
- If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to sign in or create an account.
- Once authenticated, you will be directed to the My Events page where your Connections are displayed:
Managing your Connections
If you would like to remove a specific person from your view:
- Click the "X" icon next to the person's name in your Connections list.
- This action is permanent; once removed, that individual will no longer appear in your Connections view.
Managing Your Privacy (Opt-Out)
You have full control over who can see you as a Connection. If you prefer not to be discoverable by a person or people you've attended events with, you can opt out of this feature. You can manage these preferences directly from an invitation email and without needing to log in to an account:
- Global Opt-Out: In your Account Settings, you can choose to opt out of all Connection invitations entirely.
- Specific Host Opt-Out: You can choose to block invitations from a specific person via the Unsubscribe link in the invite, or from your Account Settings page. Once you opt out, you will no longer appear in that host's Connections list.
